Hiroshima Police Sergeant Dismissed for Drunk Driving
A 25‑year‑old sergeant of the Hiroshima Prefectural Police was charged with drunken driving after his breath test showed an alcohol concentration five times the legal limit. The incident occurred in June when he drove his private car on a toll road in Onomichi after drinking with colleagues and struck a concrete block near the tollgate.
The police department filed a formal document on August 6 and imposed a disciplinary dismissal on the officer. Police chief Otsuka Kenji said the force will treat alcohol‑related misconduct seriously, strengthen prevention measures, and work to restore public trust. The case follows recent similar incidents involving other officers in the prefecture.
