Hirtshals Havn secures 740 million DKK loan guarantee for pier extension

The Hjørring Municipal Council has approved a loan guarantee of 740 million DKK for Hirtshals Havn to fund the extension of the West Pier (Vestmolen). While the municipality provides the guarantee as the port's owner, Hirtshals Havn will be responsible for taking out the loans and repaying them through its own operations.

The project aims to extend the West Pier by approximately 350 meters, part of a larger plan to establish 750 meters of new pier infrastructure. According to CEO Per Anholm Nørgaard, the investment is necessary to accommodate larger ships and meet increasing demands for capacity, regularity, and improved berthing conditions. The expansion is expected to provide better shelter and calmer wave conditions during entry, enhancing maneuverability for ships and ferries.

Hirtshals Havn is a critical hub for transport between Denmark and Norway, as well as connections to the North Atlantic. The port expects to enter into a contract with a contractor in mid-September, with construction slated to begin in 2027 and conclude between 2029 and 2030.
