Hirving Lozano joins LA Galaxy on loan from San Diego FC

Mexican international winger Hirving “Chucky” Lozano has completed a loan move to the Los Angeles Galaxy until December 2026, with an option for a permanent transfer. The deal makes Lozano a Designated Player for the Galaxy, freeing a DP slot previously occupied by injured Riqui Puig. During the 2025 MLS season with San Diego FC, Lozano appeared in 34 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists, helping the club reach the Western Conference final.

The Galaxy, currently 12th in the Western Conference, view the acquisition as a boost for their push toward the playoffs. General manager Will Kuntz said the club had pursued Lozano for three years and sees him as a “fierce competitor” with a strong track record in Mexico, the Netherlands, Italy and MLS. Head coach Greg Vanney expects Lozano to strengthen the right flank and add offensive firepower for the final stretch of the season.

Lozano’s career includes league titles with Pachuca, PSV Eindhoven and Napoli, as well as a key goal in the 2018 World Cup against Germany. The move also coincides with rumors of former Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto joining the Galaxy, further signaling an aggressive roster overhaul.
