Mini LED technology drives growth in large-format television market
Mini LED technology is becoming a central feature in the evolving television market, driven by consumer demand for larger screens and higher contrast. Analysis from IFA and NIQ indicates that revenues for televisions over 70 inches increased by 14% in the first half of 2025.
Unlike conventional LCDs, Mini LED technology utilizes a much larger number of smaller LEDs for backlight. This allows for more precise local dimming zones, enabling bright highlights to coexist with deep shadows for improved detail in sports, gaming, and movies. Some manufacturers, such as TCL, are further enhancing this with QD-Mini LED technology, which uses nanocrystals to improve color reproduction and brightness.
Several manufacturers are currently offering various Mini LED models. TCL features the 75C8L with 2,584 dimming zones, while Hisense offers the 75-inch M7SR paired with the Roku interface. Sharp has released the JP7765E, which combines VA-LCD, QLED, and Mini LED technology. Additionally, Xiaomi is offering 55-inch QD-Mini LED models at discounted rates.
