Hisham Abdel Hamid addresses potential return to Egypt
Egyptian actor Hisham Abdel Hamid has addressed the controversy surrounding his potential return to Egypt after a ten-year absence. Abdel Hamid clarified his movements, stating he left Egypt with his family in 2010 for Canada, lived there until 2016, moved to Istanbul to host a cultural program, and returned to Canada in 2022.
He denied allegations of insulting the state, asserting that his cultural programming in Istanbul focused on defending intellectual figures and discussing cinema. He noted that his work faced opposition from religious extremists but maintained his commitment to artistic and cultural values.
Abdel Hamid’s absence was previously linked to political opposition, which resulted in the Actors Syndicate striking his name from its membership rolls. Although he challenged this decision in court, the ruling upheld the syndicate's decision. His potential return has sparked significant public debate among fans and industry professionals.
