Hispanic Heritage Month marked by cultural events and Inka textile exhibition

National Hispanic Heritage Month, observed annually from September 15 to October 15, is being marked through various cultural events and exhibitions. The month commemorates the independence anniversaries of several Central American nations, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, as well as Mexico and Chile.

At Georgia Southern University, the International Studies Society hosted a Lotería game night to promote cultural awareness and provide students with new perspectives on international issues.

In Washington, D.C., the George Washington University Museum and the Textile Museum has launched an exhibition titled ‘Weaving an Empire: Textiles of the Inka World.’ The display features nearly 50 pieces of clothing and weaving traditions from the Inka Empire dating back approximately 500 years. Curator Shelley Burian noted that the garments communicate spiritual beliefs, ethnic identity, and social or political standing through specific colors, iconography, and weaving techniques.
