Hispanic leaders demand U.S. immigration reform

A coalition of 270 Hispanic leaders from civil rights, religious, educational, and business sectors has issued a joint demand to the White House and Congress for immigration reform. The group is calling for legal protections and work permits for long-term undocumented immigrants who have lived, worked, and paid taxes in the United States for many years.

Data presented by BSP Research indicates that while many Hispanic individuals support border control, 70% of those surveyed in seven states believe current administration policies have gone too far. The coalition seeks a bipartisan path to legal status to ensure long-term residents can live without fear of deportation.

In Florida, Democratic candidate Ricky Santiago has made immigration a central pillar of his campaign for State District 50. Santiago highlighted the uncertainty faced by Venezuelan and Cuban immigrants regarding due process and federal immigration enforcement. He proposed limiting the involvement of local authorities in federal immigration operations to address concerns within these communities.
