Historian Bernard Vincent to Receive International History Award from King Felipe VI

Bernard Vincent, a French-born scholar (1941) renowned for his research on the Moriscos, the Kingdom of Granada and minority groups, will be presented with the International History Award (Premio Internacional de Historia Órdenes Españolas) by King Felipe VI this autumn.

Vincent holds honorary doctorates from the Complutense University of Madrid, the Universities of Alicante, Almería, Granada and Rosario. He attributes his lifelong interest in Spanish history to early school studies, family trips to Spain and encounters with Spanish exiles in his grandmother’s hometown near Toulouse. His academic work began with a focus on Andalusian rural issues before turning to the Moriscos and their 1770 expulsion from Granada, a theme that has dominated his career.

The award ceremony underscores the cross‑national recognition of his contributions to Spanish historiography.
