Historian Carlos Acosta García dies in Garachico

Carlos Acosta García, a prominent historian, writer, and chronicler of Garachico in northern Tenerife, has passed away. His death occurred during the San Roque festivities, a celebration he documented extensively throughout his career.

Acosta was a prolific researcher and journalist who contributed to various local media outlets, including La Tarde and El Día. He authored more than fifteen books focused on the historical evolution and cultural heritage of Garachico, including works such as ‘Apuntes generales sobre la historia de Garachico’ and ‘La otra historia de Garachico’.

His contributions to the community earned him several prestigious honors, including the Leoncio Rodríguez Journalism Prize and the Antonio Reyes Poetry Prize. Local tributes included a stop during the San Roque procession at his residence, where the parish priest and community members offered prayers and poetic readings in his honor.
