Historian Dina Porat discusses the link between anti-Zionism and antisemitism
Historian Dina Porat, an emeritus professor at Tel Aviv University specializing in Holocaust research, argues that the distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism has become increasingly blurred. Speaking in an interview, Porat noted that while people once attempted to separate the two, the distinction has faded, citing the 2001 UN Durban Conference as a turning point where discussions shifted from racism to anti-Israel sentiment directed at Jews.
Porat shared personal family history regarding displacement from Eastern Europe due to antisemitism to provide context for her research. Additionally, Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, expressed concerns regarding political parties in Germany. Schuster noted that while the success of the Left party in Berlin may be driven by housing issues, he remains critical of how the party handles antisemitic incidents among its members and expects clearer consequences for those involved.
