Historian disputes theories on Father Jerzy Popiełuszko's death

Historian and chaplain Jarosław Wąsowicz SDB has stated that there is no evidence to support public hypotheses suggesting that Father Jerzy Popiełuszko was held in Kazuniu after his abduction on October 19, 1984.

Wąsowicz emphasized that historical research should rely on scientific findings and sources rather than speculation. He cited a detailed forensic medical expertise prepared by Dr. Tomasz Konopka for the Scientific Council of the Blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko Museum. This analysis, which utilized modern technology to re-examine the 1984 autopsy documentation and video recordings, suggests that the priest was murdered immediately following his abduction.

The discussion comes ahead of the 42nd anniversary of the priest's martyrdom. Wąsowicz noted that while alternative hypotheses continue to circulate in the public sphere, they largely lack scientific backing and appear to stem from journalistic speculation rather than academic research.
