Historian Júlia Campón passes away
Renowned medieval historian Júlia Campón passed away on Sunday, August 23. Her extensive research focused on the history of the Marina Alta and Marina Baixa regions, particularly in municipalities such as Altea, Calp, Dénia, and La Nucía.
Campón was a key figure in documenting the medieval past of Altea, notably through her 2009 work, ‘Història Medieval d’Altea’, which explored essential territorial configurations and settlements. She also conducted significant research at the Municipal Archive of La Nucía alongside her late husband, historian Jaume Pastor i Fluixà.
Beyond her medieval studies, Campón held a long-standing role as the secretary of the Consell Tècnic d’Heràldica i Vexil·lologia of the Generalitat Valenciana. In this capacity, she contributed to the documentation of municipal symbols across the Valencian Community, as seen in her reference work, ‘Escuts i Banderes dels Municipis de la Comunitat Valenciana’.
