Historian Juan Marcelo Cuenca analyzes the Chaco War

Historian Juan Marcelo Cuenca is providing a multifaceted analysis of the Chaco War through the new 'Colecciones UH' series. Rather than focusing solely on conventional military battles, the analysis examines the conflict as the culmination of long-standing territorial disputes between Paraguay and Bolivia.

Cuenca notes that while the Pitiantuta incident in June 1932 served as a breaking point, the tension was fueled by years of irreconcilable territorial positions, rising nationalism, and intense internal political pressures. The study emphasizes the human and social dimensions of the war, highlighting the extreme hardships faced by common soldiers, such as thirst, extreme heat, disease, and logistical failures.

By utilizing letters and personal testimonies, the collection aims to explore the social and family history of Paraguay during the conflict, framing logistics as a critical battleground in its own right.
