Historian proposes law to mandate patriotic history in Colombian schools
Historian and sculptor Eduardo Malagón Bravo has called for a new law to mandate the teaching of patriotic history in Colombian schools. Speaking during the 207th anniversary of the Battle of Boyacá Bridge, Malagón criticized the current state of civic education, arguing that institutional neglect has stripped youth of their knowledge regarding the nation's liberating struggles.
Malagón's proposed legislation aims to ensure that history is taught based on documentary truth, free from ideological manipulation and partisan bias. He suggested implementing a pilot program to establish a pedagogical model that could eventually be exported nationwide to help reconstruct citizen identity and a culture of peace.
