Historians release new works on Roman dynasty and Peruvian history
Historian and archaeologist Sandra Parente has released her novel, ‘Las máscaras de Julia’ (The Masks of Julia), through Desperta Ferro Ediciones. The work explores the Julio-Claudian dynasty, focusing on the perspective of Julia the Younger as she investigates the exile of her mother, Julia the Elder, ordered by Emperor Augustus.
Parente aims to provide emotional depth to historical figures like Livia, moving beyond traditional depictions of her as a mere assassin to present a more nuanced character. The narrative draws parallels between the lives of Julia the Elder and Julia the Younger, both of whom faced accusations of adultery despite the moral standards preached by Augustus.
In Peru, historian René Calsín Anco has published ‘Rastros y Rostros de Juliaca’ via Grupo Editorial Hijos de la Lluvia. The book serves to document the ancient history of Juliaca, challenging the perception that the area lacks a long-standing historical record.
The publication is part of a centennial project for the San Román province, which includes several titles aimed at preserving local and regional history, including works on the 8,000-year history of the region.
