Historic Dutch windmills De Lelie and Oukoper receive major restorations

The 19th‑century Korenmolen De Lelie in Etten‑Leur is undergoing a four‑week renovation to replace a rotting tail beam and other structural parts. Volunteers and a specialist team are carrying out the work, financed by a combination of a municipal contribution, sales of milled grain, a network of supporting donors, and a significant subsidy from Rabobank.

At the same time, the 1644 Oukoper Molen near Nieuwer ter Aa has completed an extensive restoration that repaired its water‑run, renewed its foundation, and treated wooden components against beetle damage. The project was funded by the Province of Utrecht, Waterschap AGV, private foundations such as the K.F. Heinfonds, and the heritage organization Stichting De Utrechtse Molen. Both restorations aim to preserve the mills’ ability to operate and to maintain their cultural significance in the Dutch landscape.
