Historic English properties linked to Henry VIII enter market or luxury hospitality

Two significant historical properties in England associated with the era of King Henry VIII have gained attention.

Allington Castle, located near Maidstone in Kent, is being offered for sale at £5 million. Dating back to 1279, the 700-year-old medieval fortress features 30 bedrooms, six towers, and a secret priest hole. The property has served as a filming location for productions such as ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Horrible Histories’. It includes a large hall, two courtyards, and a tournament court, and is currently used for weddings, corporate events, and garden tours.

In Somerset, Yarlington Lodge has been transformed into an exclusive luxury retreat. While the current building dates to approximately 1830, the land was historically linked to Henry VIII’s wives, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr. The restoration project, coordinated by Karen Roos of The Newt in Somerset, features 16 bedrooms and Regency-style interiors. The estate offers high-end amenities including a heated pool, tennis court, and cinema, providing guests with access to the nearby spa and gardens of The Newt.
