Historic home restorations featured in Houston and Paris
Recent architectural and interior design projects highlight the restoration of historic residences in Houston and Paris.
In Houston’s River Oaks neighborhood, a 1926 Spanish Revival home originally designed by architect Ralph Adams Cram has undergone a significant renovation. Led by architect Ryan Gordon and designer Katie Scott, the project focused on preserving the home’s historical integrity while correcting past architectural inconsistencies, such as asymmetrical window configurations. The restoration features original elements like a tiled dining room with a fountain alcove and a loggia with carved arches.
In Paris, designer Jessica Helgerson completed the interior of a 538-square-foot pied-à-terre located on Place Dauphine. Designed for an American couple, the apartment utilizes a ‘cabinet of curiosities’ theme, incorporating diverse elements such as a 17th-century Renaissance cabinet, vintage mantels, and custom furniture. The design integrates various textures and patterns, including raku-fired ceramics and mohair velvet, to create a cohesive narrative within the compact space.
