Historic Italian landmarks undergo major restoration and seismic upgrades

Major restoration projects have commenced on two historic Italian landmarks. In Ferrara, the Province has officially handed over the Castello Estense site to a consortium led by Lares – Lavori di restauro di Venezia. The project, costing over 11.6 million euros, aims to repair seismic damage, improve structural integrity, and repurpose museum spaces. The works are scheduled to last 1,460 days, with a completion target of August 31, 2030. To maintain tourism, the castle will remain open to the public through 2026, with construction areas strictly isolated from museum paths.

In Suzzara, work is progressing on the Teatro Guido, managed by Edilstrade Building. The project involves restoration, functional repurposing, and seismic upgrades. Recent milestones include the removal of asbestos and the remediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated cisterns. However, officials noted that the complexity of the historic structure has revealed unforeseen technical issues, such as structural discontinuities in the scenic tower, which may require additional reinforcement and could impact the original 700-day timeline.
