Historic Mexican Sites Casa Museo Benito Juárez and Caja de Agua Reopen

The Casa Museo Benito Juárez in Veracruz reopened on 1 August after being closed since mid‑July because a storm damaged the building’s electrical system and air‑conditioning, which are essential for preserving the collection. Director Aracely Batalla Álvarez confirmed that the climate controls have been restored and that the museum’s artifacts and furnishings were cleaned and improved during the shutdown.

The Caja de Agua de Zumpango, a hydraulic structure built in 1900 during the Porfiriato and part of the historic Gran Canal del Desagüe, also reopened to the public after more than eight decades of closure. The monument, noted for its engineering and architectural value, now offers guided tours that highlight its role in regulating water flow for the Valley of Mexico.
