On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the Association pour la Préservation du Matériel Ferroviaire Savoyard (APMFS) will organize a special historic train journey connecting Chambéry to Les Laumes-Alésia.
The excursion features vintage equipment, including the iconic CC 6549 electric locomotive, which entered service in 1971, and Corail TER carriages to provide a retro travel experience. The train is scheduled to depart from Chambéry-Challes-les-Eaux at 7:37 a.m., making stops at Aix-les-Bains, Culoz, Bourg-en-Bresse, Mâcon, Beaune, and Dijon before reaching its terminus at 11:23 a.m.
Passengers can choose to disembark at various stops to explore the Burgundy region for several hours before returning in the evening. One notable destination is Alésia, where travelers can visit the MuséoParc Alésia to learn about the historical Battle of Alésia between Julius Caesar and Vercingetorix.
