Historic UK buildings targeted for restaurant and café conversions

Various proposals have been submitted in the United Kingdom to repurpose historic, Grade II listed buildings into hospitality venues.

In Beccles, Loungers UK has applied to East Suffolk Council to convert a former Lloyds Bank building into Pascolo Lounge. The company plans to invest approximately £1 million to transform the site into a café, bar, and restaurant. The project aims to preserve the building's character while creating roughly 30 jobs. Proposed works include removing modern partitions, upgrading facilities, and installing an outdoor seating area with a timber pergola.

In Teignmouth, Fan of Dessert Ltd has submitted plans to Teignbridge Council to convert the former United Reformed Church on Dawlish Street into a restaurant and dessert shop. The proposal focuses on a ‘low-intervention and largely reversible’ approach to protect the building's architectural integrity. The plan involves using the existing kitchen and installing a non-structural service counter for desserts and drinks. If approved, the venture is expected to create eight jobs.
