Historical and modern travel routes from Madrid
Historical documentation reveals that in the 18th century, travelers between Madrid and Valencia utilized multiple routes rather than a single path. One major route traveled south through Aranjuez, Ocaña, Albacete, and Almansa. During the reign of Carlos III, a modern road was promoted along this path in 1761 to create solid connections across the peninsula. Another more direct option was the 'Camino de las Cabrillas,' which passed through Tarancón, Minglanilla, Requena, and Utiel.
In contemporary travel, Renfe is offering tourist train excursions departing from Madrid. These include a trip to Guadalajara via the Alcarria train to visit cultural sites such as the Palacio del Infantado and the Mendoza ducal crypt. Additionally, the 'Tren del Jamón' provides a gastronomic tour to Villanueva de Córdoba, featuring visits to dehesas and ham drying facilities, alongside local historical landmarks.
