Historical architecture and transport in Budapest
Budapest's architectural and transport history is highlighted through various historical landmarks and archival records. In the Fővám tér area, an eclectic-neobaroque apartment building designed by architect Dezső Hültl stands as a significant example of late historicism. Built by Imre Nagy and Ida Gutherz, the building once housed a prominent flower shop. Hültl, a notable figure in Hungarian architecture and a former rector of the University of Technology, contributed significantly to the city's urban landscape.
In the Újpest district, archival photographs document the evolution of local transportation. Notable landmarks include the former tram depot, an industrial monument located near the Újpest-Városkapu metro station, which ceased operations in 1982 and was later repurposed for commercial use. Historical records from the 1950s and 1970s also capture the presence of vintage vehicles, such as the Ikarus 'tail' bus and various tram models, illustrating the changing cityscape of the capital.
