Historical buildings in Brno and Olomouc undergo major restoration
In Brno, a former fire station has been successfully converted into a new cultural and social center named ‘Stará hasička’. The project involved the reconstruction, extension, and cleaning of the building to create a modern structure that retains its historical identity. A new three-story tower addition serves as a symbolic fire tower, complementing the original saddle roof. The 522-square-meter interior features flexible community spaces, including a multi-purpose hall, clubrooms, and a kitchen that can function as a buffet.
In Olomouc, a technical survey of the 125-year-old historic market hall has yielded positive results for its planned renovation. Owner Ilja Spurný reported that the building's foundations, masonry, and original wooden and steel roof structures are in much better condition than previously expected. The restoration aims to preserve the industrial character of the hall by cleaning and restoring original elements such as metal, wood, and stone, while working in coordination with heritage conservation authorities.
