Historical discoveries and mysteries at Kačina and Kunštát castles

Historical discoveries and mysteries have emerged at two significant Central European landmarks. At Kačina Castle, a previously unknown musical composition by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was discovered within the castle's library collection. The piece was identified during the digitization of the Chotek family's confiscated musical archives, which are now part of the National Museum's holdings.

Meanwhile, Kunštát Castle is noted for its complex history, ranging from its 13th-century origins and association with King George of Poděbrady to a dark incident in 1948. During that year, the bodies of Hildegarda Hudcová and her nine-year-old son were found at the castle. While the official version at the time suggested a maternal homicide-suicide, the circumstances remain a subject of historical debate and mystery. The castle, which has undergone restoration by the National Heritage Institute since 2005, is currently a national cultural monument.
