Historical drama about King Ly Cong Uan airs after 10-year delay
The historical drama “Duong toi thanh Thang Long” (The Road to Thang Long), a high-budget production costing over 100 billion VND for 19 episodes, is being broadcast after a delay of more than a decade. Originally produced in 2009 to coincide with the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi, the series was halted by the Cinema Department because its filming locations at the Hengdian World Studios in China led to concerns that it would be mistaken for a Chinese television production.
To prepare the series for its recent release, the production team utilized artificial intelligence to enhance and correct visual effects that were outdated from the original 2009 footage. Director Ta Huy Cuong noted that AI was used to refine characters, costumes, settings, and props, as well as to manage complex scenes such as large-scale battles, the river relocation of King Ly Cong Uan, and scenes involving numerous horses. The team spent approximately 20 days using AI to reconstruct combat sequences involving Dinh Bo Linh.
