Historical graphic novels and manga explore Renaissance and WWII eras

Recent reviews highlight new historical graphic novels and manga exploring significant eras of human history.

'Il Divino', a five-volume manga series published by Nobi Nobi, follows the life of Michelangelo Buonarroti. Set in Florence starting in 1488, the narrative depicts the artist's struggle to pursue his craft despite social conventions and political intrigues during the Italian Renaissance.

'Mea Culpa', a two-volume work published by Glénat, examines the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Third Reich during the end of World War II. The story uses documented historical elements and real figures, such as SS officer Karl Neuhaus, to investigate the Church's role and its interactions with the Vatican and Pope Pius XII during the final stages of the Nazi regime.
