Historical Italian villages showcase medieval architecture and heritage

Italy features several historic medieval villages that offer significant architectural and landscape interest. In Castel San Pietro Romano, located at an altitude of 750 meters near Palestrina, the Rocca dei Colonna fortification serves as a prominent landmark. This fortress was part of a defensive system linked to the Colonna family, who played a major role in the political and military history of southern Lazio. The village is characterized by narrow, steep streets and provides views extending toward the Roman plains.

In Lombardy, the town of Soncino, situated along the Oglio river, is noted for its red brick walls and the Rocca Sforzesca. The town's medieval urban layout remains visible through its ancient gates, Renaissance palaces, and the Torre Civica, which stands over forty meters tall. Soncino also houses historical sites such as the Museo della Stampa and various 15th-century buildings that reflect its religious and social history.
