Historical landmarks and heritage sites in Warsaw
Warsaw contains various historical sites that reflect the city's complex past, including remnants of the Warsaw Ghetto wall located between Sienna and Złota streets. One specific brick found at the site bears the initials ‘K. G.’, linked to Kazimierz Granzow, a German-born master mason who acquired land in Kawęczyn in 1863 to establish a modern brickworks to supply the expanding 19th-century capital.
In the Bródno district, a memorial stone on Wysockiego Street commemorates the railway workers of the former Warsaw-Praga junction. Established between 1876 and 1877, the junction connected the Nadwiślańska and Obwodowa railways and included the significant Warsaw-Praga station. The site served as a vital hub that drove local residential and industrial growth, providing social infrastructure such as schools and clinics. The monument also honors railway workers who participated in resistance activities during the occupation and fought in the 1944 uprising.
