Historical maritime buildings in Paraguay and Uruguay undergo preservation efforts

Historical preservation efforts are highlighting significant maritime architecture in Paraguay and Uruguay.

In Paraguay, archives from the Fundación Presidente de la República General Raimundo Rolón reveal details regarding the restructuring of the Puerto de Asunción between 1955 and 1959. During this period, the facility underwent expansions and aesthetic improvements, including the commissioning of large-scale murals such as ‘Epopeya’ by Adolfo Alberto Diez Gómez. These works were intended to welcome travelers in the luggage and small items halls.

In Uruguay, authorities have presented a technical study regarding the state of the Punta del Este Customs building. The 1886 structure, designed by architect Jaime Mayol, is a National Historic Monument. The diagnostic report will serve as a foundation for future restoration works and value-adding interventions. While the Ministry of Economy and Finance intends to move the current administrative dependency to a more suitable location, the building remains a foundational landmark of the coastal area.
