Historical milestones commemorated on August 25

Various historical events are commemorated on August 25. In 1609, astronomer Galileo Galilei presented the first optical telescope to the Venetian Doges, an instrument that allowed for much closer observation of the Moon.

In 1944, Allied forces liberated Paris from Nazi occupation during World War II. Other notable milestones include the 1991 adoption of the law on state independence by the Parliament of Minsk for the Republic of Belarus, and the 1929 experimentation of an early aircraft ejection seat prototype designed by Anastasie Dragomir at Paris-Orly airport.

Other historical markers include the 1704 British occupation of Gibraltar, the 1814 burning of the White House by British forces, and the 1914 declaration of war by Japan against Austria-Hungary during World War I.
