Historical milestones commemorated on September 7

September 7 marks several significant historical milestones. In 1533, Elizabeth I, daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, was born. Her 45-year reign saw the consolidation of English power, the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, and the establishment of the London Stock Exchange and the East India Company.

Other notable events include the 1701 signing of the Second Grand Alliance in The Hague between England, Austria, and the Netherlands against France. In 1764, Stanisław II Poniatowski, a Russian protégé, was crowned King of Poland, leading to the eventual partitions of the country by Russia, Prussia, and Austria.

In military history, the Battle of Borodino occurred in 1812 during the Napoleonic Wars. The conflict resulted in heavy casualties, with approximately 50,000 French and 44,000 Russian soldiers killed. The battle left Napoleon's hopes of conquering Russia in jeopardy despite his subsequent entry into Moscow. Additionally, in 1788, the Serbian volunteer leader Koča Anđelković, known as Koča Kapetan, was captured and executed by Ottoman forces.
