Balkan cultural commemorations mark Bosniak Day and Nenadović anniversary

Several cultural and historical commemorations are being observed in the Balkan region. The Bosniak Council in Montenegro has issued statements celebrating International Bosniak Day on September 28. The Council noted that this date marks the 33rd anniversary of the First Bosniak Assembly, which reaffirmed the Bosniak name and the Bosnian language.

In Serbia, commemorations are underway for the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ljubomir Nenadović, a prominent 19th-century writer, diplomat, and member of the Serbian Royal Academy. To mark the jubilee, an exhibition titled ‘Šumadijski Evropljanin’ was opened in Valjevo, accompanied by a catalog. Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković announced that a monument to Nenadović will be erected in Valjevo to honor his legacy as a bridge between Serbia and Europe.

Other historical milestones noted for late September include the 1887 establishment of a privileged steamship company in Montenegro and various historical battles and diplomatic agreements in the region.
