Historical mosques in Turkey undergo preservation and restoration

In Manisa, the Hatuniye Mosque has undergone interior improvements following the replacement of its carpets. Due to high foot traffic during midday and afternoon prayers, the previous carpets had become worn. Supported by local donors, new turquoise carpets were installed to create a more spacious and aesthetic environment for worshippers. Plans are also underway to replace the carpets in the adjacent women’s prayer room with the same turquoise design.

In Samsun, a 300-year-old wooden mosque was rescued from destruction after it was nearly sold to a baker for 1,400 lira to be used as firewood. Kadir Perçi, who served as the Ladik District Governor, intervened by purchasing the structure for 1,450 lira. Following the rescue, the mosque was registered and relocated to the Ambarköy Open Air Museum. This effort is part of a broader initiative that has led to the registration and restoration of 80 wooden mosques in the Samsun region.
