Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina hosts Sarajevo siege photography exhibition

The Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is launching its annual Museum Month with an exhibition titled ‘Sarajevo 1992–1996 – The Longest Siege’. The event features a selection of black-and-white photographs by Italian photojournalist Mario Boccia, captured during the siege of Sarajevo.

Boccia’s work focuses on the daily lives, civil resistance, and human dignity of residents rather than explicit violence or bloodshed. The exhibition aims to document how life continued amidst destruction, providing a personal perspective on the historical events. The museum noted that these photographs will enter into a dialogue with their permanent ‘Besieged Sarajevo’ installation, serving as both historical testimony and a basis for further research into the lived experiences of the period.
