Historical reenactments scheduled in Laurenzana and Calenzano
Various historical reenactments are scheduled to take place in Italy, celebrating different eras of regional history.
In Laurenzana, the tenth edition of “Laurenzana 1809 – Il Brigante Taccone, Re di Calabria e Basilicata” is set for October 3, 2026. The event commemorates the life of Domenico Rizzo, known as Taccone, a legendary brigand active during the French decade and Bourbon Restoration. The reenactment features itinerant theatrical scenes across the town's historic center and castle, accompanied by music from the Ambasciatori Lucani. This event has gained national recognition, being included in the Italian Ministry of Culture's list of historical reenactments.
In Calenzano, the “Calenzano 1325” reenactment will occur on October 18, recalling the siege of the local castle by Lucchese troops led by Castruccio Castracani. The day-long event includes artisan demonstrations, falconry, musicians, and a rhythmic challenge between flag-wavers representing the Calenzano and Lucchese factions. The program also features historical dances, a parade, and a fire show.
