Historical religious sites in Bolsena and Anagni

The Basilica di S. Cristina in Bolsena features a presbytery with architectural elements reflecting various historical restorations. The floor contains a double row of bricks marking the site of the oldest apse, discovered in 1977. The main altar, created in 1991, incorporates 10th-century marble artifacts found at the burial site of Saint Christina. The interior also houses wooden stalls from 1733 and a polyptych by Sano di Pietro, which depicts various religious themes including the Christ Docente and scenes from the legend of Saint George.

In Anagni, the Crypt of San Magno, located beneath the Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata, contains 540 square meters of medieval frescoes dating from the late 11th to early 12th century. These paintings cover theological themes from the Old and New Testaments, medieval medicine, and the lives of saints. Due to conservation requirements, artificial lighting in the crypt is activated at intervals for approximately twenty minutes at a time. Visitors must book the museum route in advance, as the crypt is not accessible via a separate ticket.
