Historical religious sites reopen after major restorations

Several historical religious sites are reopening to the public following extensive restoration projects.

In Cabo Frio, Brazil, the Igreja de São Benedito, a landmark dating back to 1761, is scheduled to reopen on October 5. The restoration, costing approximately R$ 2.5 million, addressed structural issues including the roof, floor, and altar. The site holds significant cultural and historical importance for the local Afro-indigenous community and the Passagem neighborhood.

In Porto, Portugal, the Mosteiro de São Bento da Vitória will reopen on October 1 after a €4.85 million requalification project funded by the PRR Cultura. The renovation focused on improving safety, energy efficiency, and public accessibility. The reopening will be celebrated with a four-day cultural program featuring musical concerts, literary readings, and performances by Palestinian and Lebanese artists.
