Historical sites and vanished settlements in the Czech Republic
The Ore Mountains (Krušné hory) and the Pardubice region host several sites of historical and cultural interest. In the Ore Mountains, the vanished settlement of Königsmühle (Králův mlýn) remains a point of interest. Once home to approximately 53 residents in 1860, the village relied on agriculture and mills. Following the post-war expulsion of German inhabitants in 1946, the settlement declined as residents from the nearby village of Háj repurposed building materials from the local houses.
In the Vraclavský ridge area, the village of Pěšice celebrates 800 years since its first written mention. The area is noted for its traditional folk culture, including the manual raising of a maypole, and historical landmarks such as a 1920 chapel dedicated to Jan Hus and the remains of a medieval fortress known as Kozí nožka. Nearby, the village of Mravín is recognized for its picturesque landscape and historical architecture constructed from opuka stone.
