Historical sites in Fruška Gora and Kličevica reveal unique heritage
Historical and geological sites in the Balkan region are drawing attention for their unique heritage. In Serbia, the Fruška Gora mountain range near Beočin contains the site of Kozje brdo, a former mining location for semi-precious stones such as agate, chalcedony, and carbonate onyx. The area remains difficult to navigate due to dense forests and a lack of maintained tourist paths.
In Croatia, the Kličevica fortress near Benkovac is noted for a rare archaeological find: a bronze three-barreled cannon discovered in 1968. The weapon's construction bears striking similarities to the multi-barrel artillery designs drafted by Leonardo da Vinci. The original artifact is currently preserved in the Benkovac Local Museum.
