Historical Spanish palaces highlight regional heritage and royal history

Two notable Spanish estates offer insights into the country's architectural and political history. In Segovia, the Royal Palace and Forest of Riofrío, commissioned by Queen Isabel de Farnesio, served as a retreat from court intrigues. The site is linked to significant art collections, including works by Titian and Van Dyck, and is connected to the history of the Spanish monarchy through the lineage of Carlos III.

In Extremadura, the Palacio de las Cabezas in Casatejada features English-inspired neo-Gothic architecture. Built in the late 19th century by Antonio López y López, the mansion is historically significant for hosting private meetings between Francisco Franco and Juan de Borbón in 1954 and 1960 regarding the future of the Spanish monarchy.
