History Channel and Histoire TV Launch New World War II Documentary Series

The US‑based History Channel is reviving its long‑running documentary brand Modern Marvels with a three‑part miniseries titled Modern Marvels: WWII. The first episode, “Super Weapons”, airs on 27 July and examines innovations such as the British “Bouncing Bomb”, the American B‑29 Superfortress and the German Enigma cipher machine. Two more episodes – “Mega Builds” and “Gears and Gadgets” – follow on 3 August, focusing on massive construction projects and additional wartime technologies. Episodes become available the day after broadcast via the History Channel app and on‑demand services.

French broadcaster Histoire TV will debut a six‑part series called Les batailles mythiques de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, starting on 30 July. Directed by Nick Mavroidakis, each 45‑minute episode revisits pivotal battles such as Dunkirk, D‑Day, the Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbor, the Blitz and the Battle of Arnhem, using restored archival footage and expert commentary. The channel also airs a separate 52‑minute documentary on the abolition of the death penalty in France.

Both series aim to bring fresh archival insight and narrative depth to the historical understanding of World War II.
