Hita City hosts student reports on forestry craftsmanship

Five high school students held a reporting session in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, to present findings from the ‘Kikigaki Koshien’ program. This initiative, organized by a committee including the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, tasks students with interviewing local craftsmen in sectors such as forestry and fishing to document their wisdom and work ethics.

During the presentations, students shared insights gained from their field research. One student, who interviewed a forestry business owner, emphasized that continuous human management is essential for maintaining forest value and ensuring the sustainability of the industry. Another student highlighted the intense dedication and professionalism observed in local foresters. Hita City, which has hosted these students since 2023, organized the event to promote the city's local charms and the importance of its traditional industries.
