Hitachi develops foundational technology for silicon quantum computing
Hitachi, Ltd. has demonstrated foundational technology to support the scaling of silicon-based quantum computers. The company developed a ‘shared gate architecture’ that allows multiple qubits to be operated using common wiring and control gates, addressing the challenge of increasing wiring complexity as qubit counts grow.
In collaboration with imec, Hitachi prototyped and evaluated a 4x4 qubit array structure, confirming successful quantum dot formation and qubit manipulation. Additionally, the company proposed an ‘electron velocity control technology’ to minimize quantum state disturbances by suppressing sudden changes in electron shuttling speeds.
Hitachi aims to advance from academic verification to industrial application with a roadmap including cloud access by fiscal year 2027, a 100-qubit class system by 2028, and a 1,000-qubit class system by 2030.
