Hitachi Energy announces major manufacturing investments in US and China

Hitachi Energy has announced two major manufacturing expansions to address rising global demand for electrical grid infrastructure.

In the United States, the company is investing $528 million to establish a new transformer factory in Copiah County, Mississippi. This project is expected to create 654 jobs and represents Hitachi Energy’s largest investment in the U.S. Federal officials, including the U.S. Interior Secretary and Secretary of Energy, framed the move as part of an “energy dominance” agenda aimed at revitalizing American manufacturing and securing the power grid. This is part of a broader $1.5 billion U.S. investment plan by the company.

Simultaneously, Hitachi Energy is investing $300 million in Hefei, Anhui Province, China. This expansion aims to strengthen the company’s manufacturing capacity for power transformers and components within the Chinese market. The move is part of a larger $9 billion global investment strategy intended to bolster supply chain resilience and meet the surging electricity needs driven by data centers, AI, and industrialization.
