Hitit University develops domestic blood sugar sensor

Researchers at Hitit University have developed a domestic alternative to imported blood sugar measurement sensors. The project, which spanned nine years of research, was led by Professor Faruk Gökmeşe, Professor Ebru Gökmeşe, and Lecturer Büşra Cebeci.

The new sensor is enzyme-free and utilizes a special nano-patterning method with materials possessing noble metal properties, such as palladium. This design makes the sensor highly resistant to moisture and oxidation, offering a longer shelf life and increased durability compared to traditional options.

The invention has been registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and received a gold medal at the ISIF'26 International Invention Competition held during TEKNOFEST in Şanlıurfa. Currently at technology readiness level 4, the researchers have proven the sensor material in a laboratory setting. The ultimate goal is to develop a domestic prototype glucometer for personal use.
