HIV-LAB Lombardia forum discusses modernizing prevention and therapy
Experts and healthcare professionals met in Milan for the second HIV-LAB Lombardia forum to discuss modernizing HIV prevention and therapy pathways. The goal is to meet unmet needs and approach international targets set for 2030.
Davide Croce, director of CREMS, emphasized that while therapies are increasingly effective, progress requires modernizing organizational models to reach at-risk populations, personalize treatment options, and support long-term adherence.
In Lombardy, 449 new HIV diagnoses were recorded in 2024, representing approximately 19% of Italy's national diagnoses. Participants noted that effective pharmacological tools alone are insufficient; there is a critical need for improved access, appropriateness, and continuity of care to address stable diagnosis rates and unidentified infections.
