HIV/AIDS status reports released in Ivory Coast and Madagascar
In the Cavally region of Ivory Coast, health officials reported that 5,740 people are currently receiving antiretroviral treatment. Dr. Jules Galla Bi Koffi, the regional director of health, noted that while 100% of HIV-positive pregnant women screened have achieved viral suppression, 96 patients have been lost to follow-up care. The region aims to meet the “three 95s” targets: ensuring 95% of people living with HIV are tested, 95% of those diagnosed are on treatment, and 95% of those treated achieve viral suppression.
In Madagascar, an estimated 150,000 people are living with HIV. Data presented at a recent forum indicates that approximately 50 new cases are notified daily, with one death reported every day. Professor Lanto Niriana Ravaoarisoa, Director General of the National Institute of Public Health and Community, emphasized that information and testing must remain central to prevention efforts to combat lack of awareness regarding transmission and protection methods.
