Hizb-ut Tahrir calls for Caliphate restoration in Turkey
Hizb-ut Tahrir, an organization designated as a terrorist group by the Turkish Supreme Court, has issued a statement targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the secular Republic of Türkiye.
The group’s response follows remarks made by Erdoğan during the ‘Kitaba Vefa: Cilt Sanatı ve Restorasyon Sergi Açılışı’ on September 4, where he emphasized the importance of historical heritage and cultural roots. Hizb-ut Tahrir criticized these statements, labeling the current secular and democratic system as a ‘decayed management system’ and claiming that Erdoğan’s rhetoric is merely an attempt to ‘tickle the feelings of Muslims’ within the existing framework.
The organization called for the abolition of the Republic and the restoration of the Caliphate, which was abolished on March 3, 1924. They argued that true connection to ancestral heritage can only be achieved by discarding Western-imported culture and returning to a governance system based on Islamic faith.
